How long can debt collecting chase me for loans/credit card last incurred in 2001/2 and not acknwledged/repayd?

ex gambling addict alcohol dependant 63yr old with mental issues now partially disabled….help they are driving me nuts with letter demands and fone calls at my old address where my 82 yr old mum still lives threatening to send collection rep or bailiffs.
